Butter Chicken Recipe

Butter chicken is a classic Indian dish that is loved by many people around the world. 

It’s a dish that is rich and flavorful with tender pieces of chicken in a creamy and aromatic tomato-based sauce. 

It’s easy to make, and you can adjust the spice level to your liking. Today, I’m going to share with you an easy and delicious butter chicken recipe that you can make at home.

Ingredients:

For the chicken

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs-
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste  
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (or more if you like it spicier)
  • 1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, mix together the chicken, yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, garam masala, turmeric, paprika,cumin, salt, and pepper. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 hour.

2. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the marinated chicken on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through.

3. While the chicken is baking, prepare the sauce. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

4. Add the garlic and ginger paste and cook for another 2 minutes.

5. Add the garam masala, turmeric, paprika, cumin, and chili powder and cook for another minute, stirring constantly.

6. Add the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10-15 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.

7. Add the heavy cream and stir to combine. Simmer for another 5 minutes.

8. Add the cooked chicken to the sauce and stir to combine. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes to allow the chicken to soak up the flavors of the sauce.

9. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Garnish with fresh cilantro.

Serve the delicious butter chicken over rice or with naan bread. Enjoy!
